Whitby

The Historic Fishing Port of Whitby is one of the most popular seaside resorts in the whole of the UK. It is bursting with character  and it has changed little since the days when Captain James Cook lived and worked here and Bram Stoker was inspired to write Dracula.
Whitby Abbey, founded in the seventh century makes Whitby instantly recognisable. Its ruins sit on the top of high cliffs which look down onto the picturesque harbour.

The dramatic ruins of the abbey dominate the eastern headland and the 199 steps lead down to the narrow streets and alleyways of the old town. The bustling harbour is still a working port and boats can be hired for a spot of angling or enjoy the views of the coastline from one of the many pleasure crafts moored in the harbour.

Whitby possesses a marvelous contrast for holiday makers. It has historic streets and old world charm as well as the usual amenities sought by today’s visitors. They include a varied selection of cafes and restaurants catering for all tastes.

Delight your senses on the local “catch of the day” from award-winning restaurants.

Whitby is situated on the breath taking North Yorkshire coast and is a good base to explore the North Yorkshire Moors and its tranquil villages which include Robin Hoods Bay and its smugglers past, and Goathland with its Heartbeat fame. The steam train of The North Yorkshire Moors Railway now goes direct from Whitby to Pickering along one the most scenic routes in the country.
